Hey guys how’s it going? It’s been though situation for a while, and you might be stressed up a bit, but allow me to stretch your brain cells a bit more with something that you might want to take notes of which is deepfake.
For the final assignment, I’ve chosen AI in video making, specifically deepfake which is a booming topic in the recent years. The goal of the video is to give a neutral perspective of the technology to make people aware of its benefits and drawbacks and things to be cautious about. My intended audience is the general public since this technology is something that could affect anyone. The key takeaway is so that the viewer could be more aware with the spread of fake news. The call to action is for those who are really into deepfake detection system to read more about it and do their own research as it is really complex.
My test began a month before the due date since deepfake is an uncharted territory for me. I practiced using DeepFaceLab which is the program I used for my deepfake test and tried several machine learning training methods before finding the best one which I applied in the first shot of the video, I had to do around 40 hours of training to get the desired result. I did my research a week prior to shooting, however since I had other assignments, I couldn’t focus entirely in it. The real research began 3 days before shooting. I planned to finish my research on Wednesday and then shoot at the same day which I successfully did thanks to Bob’s support and after days of extremely tiring research (since it’s quite hard to find the scholarly source for it). Shooting didn’t take long since I’m doing a normal analytical video, so I went straight to editing which took quite a while since it’s hard to find the required footages for my script. Hence why I used paint in some of my footage to compensate it since I don’t have an animation software. I used After Effects for motion graphics for some explanations to illustrate the point I’m trying to convey. I also used some memes in the video because it just pops in my head and it’s relevant to what I’m trying to say. Lo-fi music was used for the video to illustrate that this video is a non-formal video and also to make more intriguing to watch. Moreover, a new character appeared in my video which is none other than myself dressed in a jacket, an ushanka, sunglasses, and mask. To illustrate that it could be anyone behind the mask since the face is obscured.
Making a 7 minutes video about a new topic in the industry is definitely a challenge in itself. The lack of scholarly resource makes it hard for me to progress in the outset during my research process. But thanks to Bob’s help and support, I’m able to finish my video which I am keen on doing. Finding the source is one problem but finding the video as a b-roll is another one. During editing I noticed that some of the things I said have YouTube videos for it, however, most of them are copyrighted. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to shoot my own B-rolls for my projects, however, in this instance, it’s rather impossible to shoot my own videos for some parts of the video. The biggest problem was the part where I talked about Corridor Crew’s creation since all their works are copyrighted. And that’s why by using either paint or After Effects, I hope to compensate the gap I have by being as creative as I can be. Before I talked about the problems of deepfake, I changed from video footage to just texts. It’s not because of lazy editing, I aimed to draw the viewer attention as it is a contrast to the previous shots which portrays deepfake as something really good, my goal is to take the viewer’s attention so that they’re aware that deepfake is not always good, but it has its own dangers. The last challenge I had to face is my housemates which are getting rather noisy with their new switch game, I tried using NVIDIA’s artificial intelligence called RTX Voice which would isolate my voice better and remove all the noise that’s coming from any ambient sounds which produce a less distorted audio compared to adobe’s denoiser.
Hi guys how’s it going? I hope you guys are still hanging with the current COVID-19 situation. Check out my new video about how Artificial Intelligence is used in Formula 1!
I have chosen Artificial Intelligence for my topic. The goal of this video is to inform viewers about how AI is used in the world of Formula 1 and Formula E to give a bit of insight of how technology has improved Formula 1 and using Formula E as a comparison. My intended audiences are Formula 1 enthusiasts who are interested to learn more about the sport. With the cancellation of many races due to COVID 19, I feel it is a good thing to keep them entertained and informed about the sport. I used Margaret Boden’s AI: Its Nature and Future for my academic resource to define AI. My approach for this video would be expository and analytic where I explain how Formula 1 is trying to improve itself using AI and comparing it with Formula E. I’m hoping the viewers could know how Formula 1 evolving both from the competitive side and fan engagement side with the use of AI. My call to action is for the viewers to watch Formula 1 races and Formula E races online to compare.
Since the outset I aimed to create a video within the Formula 1 context while utilizing Artificial Intelligence as a theme. I wanted to tell my viewers how Formula 1 is evolving by using Artificial Intelligence to improve itself. While planning for the script, I found it challenging to find an article about AI in Formula 1 as it is just have been implemented last year and planned 2 years ago regarding fan engagement, while for race analysis it is highly confidential within the teams itself. Finding footages for B-rolls is a challenge by itself as well as Liberty Media who owns Formula 1 does not give a green light for their videos to be used. Luckily for Formula E, some constructor gives access to their footages so I could use some of it. Therefore, for Formula 1, I used mostly in-game footages of the 2019 game and other fan footages. COVID 19 really impacted my footages as I am supposed to go the Australian Grand Prix on March to gather some footages. I also used After Effects to create call-out titles and other graphics for explanations. By using chill music, I aimed to create a casual mood on the video. The challenges I face is to do the research with limited resource, so I had to make with what I have while still trying to achieve my goal. Talking about the topic is also quite challenging for me personally with the amount of words I have to say, so I had to re-record several clips because my voice is not clear enough. I believe with more practice I would be able to speak more clearly in the future. A late start due to other circumstances also added to the challenge as I have less time to prepare, which I would definitely fix for future assignments.
And here’s the script I used as a proof of planning, I didn’t use a storyboard because I usually visualize the video I want during editing, except for PTCs (Piece to Camera).
Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport with lots of innovations being rolled out since the beginning of the sport in order to be more competitive. So, it’s no surprise that F1 teams such as Williams and Red Bull use cutting edge technologies to do their work to squeeze every bit of advantage they can get. One technology in particular is artificial intelligence or AI for short.
Buckle up and prepare yourself because I’m gonna tell you how artificial intelligence can improve Formula 1.
But what is AI you may ask? Margaret Boden stated in her book AI: It’s Nature and Future that AI seeks to make computers do the sort of things that minds can do. (Boden 2016, p. 1).
AI is not used in Formula 1 to make the cars drive itself which would indirectly kills the sport, but it is used to analysed data from the cars on track. An F1 car has more than 120 sensors generating 1.1m telemetry data points/second which is obviously too much for a human brain to handle, especially in a fast-paced environment of Formula 1. It is used to simulate strategies to find which one’s the best for the current situation which is crucial if you’re fighting whether to win or for points. Renault for example partnered up with Microsoft to use AI in both race analysis and general engineering projects to improve their car with the use of simulations.
Formula 1’s managing director of motorsports and technical director, Ross Brawn, stated that Formula 1 uses machine learning to increase fan engagement called F1 Insight by giving predictions such as car performance, overtake probability, and pit stop advantage using Amazon SageMaker, a cloud machine learning platform from amazon that was launched in November 2017 with all the data they have.
Now lets take a look at Formula E. Formula E is a single seater motorsport championship that uses only electric cars, AI is being used extensively in Formula E to analyse data on car performance, track designs, weather surveys and more. Formula E is the living proof of how sophisticated AI can create a competitive advantage on track. AI isn’t replacing the team’s engineers, strategist, or driver’s, but it’s helping them to eliminate every last inefficiency and minimising waste. AI is also used to analyse and track car performance on track which improves their fan engagement which unfortunately I’m unable to show due to copyright reasons, so I would recommend you guys to see both F1 races and FE races to compare.
So there you have it, strategies, fan engagement, all the good stuff. So, what do you guys think about artificial intelligence in Formula 1? Do you think it’s what Formula 1 need to improve? Drop a comment below if you’d like, hit that like button and subscribe, and I’ll see you guys in the next video.

For my introduction video, I aimed for an up-beat and fun approach as suggested by the colour palette and music used in the video. By showing myself in 4 different characters, I aimed to reveal the contents I am aiming to make in my channel starting from Racer Kent, Musician Kent, Videographer Kent, and Just Kent, which suggest that the channel is aiming to create content regarding motorsport, in this case Formula One, music, cinematics, and personal updates.
I started by recording some B-rolls for my project as I know what I want to do, just not sure how to deliver it, therefore, rather than wasting my time searching for ideas for the script, I went on to shoot some B-rolls. After having the script done. During shooting, I asked my housemate to help me with focusing the lens since the camera I’m using (a Nikon D5500) has a ‘terrible’ auto focus, hence why I always utilize manual focus in all my projects with the help of a follow focus unit. For this video, I positioned myself the center of the frame to be more direct as I speak to the viewers, except Racer Kent since I have to show the gaming rig in which case is impossible to frame myself at the center. I tried to employ the rule of thirds in all my static B-roll shots so that my shots would look nice as it follows the industry standards. Moreover, I used a mixture of medium shot and medium close up to hide the cuts I made in the project; therefore, it would look seamless in the final product. By using 2 LED lights as a key light and a back light I also aimed to create a sense of depth in the shots to illustrate a 3D form. I employed a Rode Videomic NTG Shotgun microphone to help me isolate ambient sound to get a clear sound of my voice, by also keeping a safe distance between the microphone and the sound source by using an external recorder.

Throughout pre-production, production, and post-production, I encountered countless obstacles including hardware and software, however, as a media creator, it is fundamentally important for us to find a creative way to get through these obstacles. Let’s start with pre-production, it is hard for me to find out which style of video I am aiming for, to compensate this I watched other Youtuber’s video to find the style I like and found several of them, in which I put some ideas on the script of the video.
During production, I wanted to isolate the key light I’m using so it doesn’t illuminate the whole room, however, the lights I bought didn’t come with barn doors, so I had to use a paper bag I got as a barn door which works surprisingly well. Initially I wanted to put my mic on a boom pole to get better audio, however, since I don’t have one, I used a stick in my room and used a c-clamp to attach the mic to the stick, but it didn’t give me the results I wanted, so I went back to the idea of clamping it to the light stand which is pretty close to where I’m standing. I also found it hard to maintain eye contact with the lens so you could probably see my eyes running around in some of the shots. Moreover, I had to make several takes for some shots as I found it difficult to say some sentences clearly, sometimes I speak to fast, so I had to lower down the pace to compensate.
In the post-production process, my laptop constantly broke down in the early stage of editing which made me lost over 8 hours of editing time just to fix the issue, the hardest part is probably where I have to rotoscope myself frame by frame since I don’t own a greenscreen in the shot where there are 2 Kents.
I learned that making a vlog like this is not a simple task and require practice and preparation in order to achieve good results, I enjoyed the whole process (even though I had a mental breakdown because of my laptop) and I’m looking forward to make more contents on this unit and even after I’m finished with this unit.
Hello friends!
This is the video I made for the test video for my first assignment, hope you guys enjoyed it!

A video form is very influential in the online word these days due to various reasons. One of them is the powerful message a video can send to its viewers. As the famous quote by Noams Chomsky says
“He who controls the media controls the mind of the public”
Noams Chomsky
In addition to that, with the ever-evolving bandwidth, video contents on the web is getting easier to access everywhere as long as you’re connected. And last but not least, visual message is easier to convey to a global audience as it is a universal language.
As stated in the previous point, video as a universal language is easier to convey and understand to a global audience, which is one of the reason why silent comedy’s pantomime is tremendously successful back in the days and why it is still popular in today’s pop culture such as Mr. Bean.
Video-making is highly influenced by YouTube culture because it is one of the most mainstream ways to gain viewers, as it is the goal of uploading you videos on such platform. Clickbait is one of the biggest “sin” in video making, despite that it is widely used both by people who are just starting out or even widely known influencers.
To finish off, I will give a review of a #ALM102DC video on YouTube from Richard Yu.
I believe that Richard did a phenomenal job on creating a video despite his monotone voice. It is well formatted and easily understandable. His sarcastic personality is extremely enjoyable and his monotone and serious voice adds to it.
To recapitulate, it is a well made video and very enjoyable.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
